Antonelli and Bendsneyder take points in Barcelona.

06/11/2017 - Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit, Spain
The hot weather continued at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit on race day, as track temperatures of up to 45ºC greeted the Moto3 riders for their 11am contest. In the race, Red Bull KTM Ajo riders Niccolo Antonelli and Bo Bendsneyder placed 11th and 15th, respectively, earning some hard fought points. Antonelli, who took the chequered flag 9th, dropped two positions due to a 0.5 second penalty for running onto the green area at Turn 9.
Antonelli had made steady improvement during the race. The Italian was able to stay inside the second group, with two other riders, fighting for a place in the Top 10. On the last laps he was able to take a step forward, maintain a great pace and reach the lead group, finishing 9th and just 1.5 seconds behind the winner. After finishing the race, Antonelli –along with two other riders– received the penalty that meant he placed 11th, taking 5 points.
Bo Bendsneyder made a good start to the Catalan GP, gaining two positions and staying in the top group. After 5 laps, the Dutchman noticed that his tyre performance was dropping, and he fell to 19th as a result. A crash on the last lap for another rider, and a couple of passes by Bendsneyder, allowed him to enter the points after 22 laps.
In the overall standings, Bendsneyder is fourteenth with 17 points, followed by Antonelli in fifteenth with 16. The Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto3 team will have a two-day test this Tuesday and Wednesday at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit.

Aki Ajo - Team Manager:
"It’s been a positive weekend. Mugello was not easy, but after some changes to the bike and working with the riders I see some progress. Niccolo [Antonelli] has worked consistently throughout the weekend and had a good race. The final position for him was not the best, but he remained quite close to the winner and that reflects a step forward. We will try to give more in the coming races. Bo [Bendsneyder], unfortunately, did not have a good race, although at the end he was able to improve a little. I think that in the next race in Holland, his home GP, things will be much better for him. Now it’s time to focus on two days of testing here, in which we will try everything possible to keep improving."

23 NICCOLO ANTONELLI

"The way things turned out, I don’t agree with the half-second sanction, but we have to accept it. We were quite happy with the race; we took another step forward and we are close to the Top 5. On the last few laps I felt much better and we reached the lead group. The riders in my group were riding at a 1:54 pace, so for the last few laps we were very fast. I’m satisfied."

64 BO BENDSNEYDER

"It was quite a difficult race. After five or six laps, both tyres dropped off a lot. I don’t know if it is a question of the rubber or some other configuration, but I felt that they wore down in a very short time. For me it was a race of survival at many times. We cannot be happy with this result, because I think we can give much more, but we must value the point we earned positively. Now we have two days of testing here, we will try to improve ahead of Assen and see how it goes there."
